New designers and homeowners are installing and installing shower benches in bathroom showers. While many people prefer the older form of box style shower bench because they need a solid base to support the weight.
Did you know that you can make a shower bench with the same strength? That’s how it is! Shower benches are the new way to do it!
A shower bench is a seat that is placed in a shower and allows people to sit and relax while washing. Shower benches can be installed permanently or they can be mobile.
What is a shower bench for swimming?
A shower bench attaches to the wall at seat height, but there are no legs or brackets underneath, creating the appearance of floating.
When not in use, these benches can be permanently installed in the seating position, or some floating benches have hinges that allow them to fold against the wall. Provides a sleek, streamlined look while maintaining the same strength as a box-style shower bench.
It enhances the look of your bathroom and also provides a spa-like experience to help you relax – all of this, as well as EXTRA storage space.
Let’s see why you should consider buying a floating shower bench.
Space and storage management
If you have a small bathroom but still want to incorporate a bench, the shower bench is very suitable as it does not take up more space. Floating benches are stored underneath that you can use to tidy up your area.
You can store small cosmetic items such as shampoo, shower gel, and scrub bottles under the bench. It is an excellent place to store wheelchairs if taken at the right height. It also provides extra legroom and keeps you comfortable while sitting in the bathroom shower.
Design
If you get creative with your ideas, shower seats add a different feel and look to your bathroom area. The type of material used for the surface can also influence the design.
You can coordinate the bench with other bathroom items for a more cohesive look, like a matching wood-framed mirror or a marble soap dispenser.
Easy installation
A shower bench can be added to an existing bathroom at any time and will not detract from the overall design. Floating benches are not designed to be incorporated as recessed benches and can instead be screwed into place with the proper tools.
Floating shower bench dimensions
The size of your shower bench will be determined by the size of your bathroom and the number of people using it. It should be wide enough to be able to sit comfortably without overshadowing the shower space.
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) recommended a minimum height of 17 inches (430 mm) and a maximum height of 19 inches (485 mm). Read more about normal shower sizes here.
How deep should a floating bench be?
The depth should not exceed 15-16 inches, but should not be so deep that it is difficult to stand. The amount of space available should determine the length. The basic guideline is that users should feel comfortable while sitting on the bench.
How much weight can a swim bench hold?
The typical weight capacity of a shower bench is 200 to 500 pounds, while a floating bench should support at least 400 pounds.
Swimming shower bench cost
How much does it cost to install a floating shower bench? It all depends on how you do it. For a full-size seat bench, shower bench kits will cost between $ 300 and $ 400.
In most regions, the cost of having a professional install it will be between $ 50 and $ 100 per hour.
For a floating shower bench to be built properly, you need to budget for at least $ 500. The cost of breaking parts of your wall can be as high as $ 1000. Custom walk-in shower benches are much more expensive.
Corner floating shower bench
If you are considering installing a corner shower bench, make sure you know what to look for. A corner shower bench with a depth of 18-24 inches is recommended. Making sure you have the correct amount is crucial.
It is a pity to choose what you will later regret. Corner shower benches are a great option for limited spaces, or you don’t want the shower bench to take up too much space.
What is the best material for a floating shower bench?
A floating shelf slab is required, preferably stone or granite. You also need to buy floating bench equipment.
The shelf slab should also have slate for ease of installation. When purchasing, we explicitly recommend floating shower bench slab.
Stone, such as granite, marble, or quartz, is often the best material for a floating shower bench. While wood can be used to make shower seats, it is not a suitable option.
Even if it is cared for carefully, the wood will rot if exposed to enough water. This is true even for woods like teak.
It is different if you could remove the shower seat. Teak wood, for example, can withstand large amounts of moisture, but it would still need to be replaced every five to ten years.
Hot shower benches are more comfortable to sit on as they are warmer.
How to make a floating shower bench?
Purchase the shelving components and bench support equipment.
Take out the tile and pass a piece of the wall where you choose the shower bench.
Attach the concealed brackets to the wall frame.
Hang both free-hanging brackets against the studs.
Use the bolts that come with the shower bench to secure it to the brackets.
Finish by sealing the area and, if necessary, reseeding.
Honestly building and assembling a shower bench yourself is not a great idea, especially if you are not familiar with installing brackets or bricks. Creating a floating shower bench requires precise measurements and is not the same as building a shower seat.
Whichever method you choose, make sure it is tilted slightly forward to allow the water to drain off.
How to make a shower bench for long-term swimming
If your floating bench is made of wood, be sure to clean it after use to keep mold and saws at bay.
When washing, use warm water and mild soap. After rinsing, dry it with a soft cloth.
Another option is to spray a solution of warm water and vinegar to prevent mold.
If mold begins to grow, clean it with a mixture of baking soda and water.
Never use materials that contain bleach, as they can easily break and destroy the shower seat.
